About

Mike Spring is a classically trained singer and began playing the guitar at age 15. For voice he was trained in the Bel Canto school of music which is a historical Italian vocal style emphasizing beautiful tone, smooth phrasing, and effortless vocal agility. However, he currently follows the American School which emphasizes the physical techniques of singing. At just 16 he recorded the bass solo in Bach's "Magificat in D" and still has a deep love and appreciation for classical music. In college he studied comparative literature on a graduate school fellowship but found he wanted to dedicate his life to music. In the mid 70's he played on the Florida Motel circuit as a solo act and as the lead guitarist in a rock trio. In 1977 he moved to the Southside of Atlanta and settled down with his family.
Over the course of his musical career, Mike has won the Lincoln Center and Shieff Memorial Awards, as well as earning 3rd place in The American Song Festival International Song Writing Competition in 1979 and 2nd place in a Clark University community poetry competition. He has an (as of yet) unpublished novel and a book of religious reflections. He also collects and paints toy soldiers with one of the largest collections in the country of Mulberry English Civil War figures. Mike taught at Woodward Academy for many years but now focuses on playing music at church,
booking private events and teaching lessons.
